Netflix has unveiled the second and final official trailer for Animals, the upcoming thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck. The film marks Affleck’s next feature directorial outing after Air and promises a tense, dark ride built around one terrifying question: how far would you go to protect your family? Set against the high-stakes world of Los Angeles politics, Animals follows a powerful couple whose carefully controlled lives begin to fall apart when their son is kidnapped.
Affleck stars as Mark Kimball, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose political ambitions have placed him firmly in the public spotlight. But everything changes when he receives an ominous phone call informing him that his son has been taken. Alongside his wife Abigail, played by Kerry Washington, Mark is suddenly forced into a desperate race against time to arrange a massive ransom. The trailer wastes little time establishing that this is not simply a kidnapping thriller—it is a story about what happens when power and influence suddenly stop being enough.
The situation becomes even more complicated because much of the couple’s wealth has already been poured into Mark’s political campaign. With the clock ticking and the ransom demanding money they cannot easily access, Mark and Abigail are pushed into increasingly dangerous territory. The film’s central mystery revolves around how far they are willing to go, what lines they are prepared to cross and whether saving their son will force them to expose secrets they have spent years keeping hidden.
The final trailer also teases a growing web of deception, making it clear that trust will be in extremely short supply. The ominous question “Who can you trust?” hangs over the story as Mark and Abigail attempt to figure out who is behind the kidnapping and whether everyone around them is telling the truth. The tagline “Power can’t protect you” perfectly captures the film’s premise, as a man accustomed to influence discovers that his political status may be completely useless when his own family is in danger.
Joining Affleck and Washington is an impressive ensemble featuring Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Christopher Woodley, Matt Gerald, Jacob Estrada, Steven Yeun and Luis Gerardo Méndez. The screenplay comes from Connor O. McIntyre, Billy Ray and Ben Affleck, while Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Elswit handles the cinematography. With a story built around kidnapping, political ambition, desperation and hidden secrets, the film appears determined to keep audiences guessing about who is pulling the strings.
Animals is shaping up as a major new chapter in Ben Affleck’s career behind the camera, combining his filmmaking experience with a central performance as a man pushed far beyond his comfort zone. Netflix will release the film in select US theatres and on the streaming platform from October 9, 2026. With a kidnapped child, a ticking clock and a family forced to confront the darkest corners of its own life, Animals looks ready to turn a political power game into a deeply personal fight for survival.
