A full-circle moment has arrived for fans of Ramayana as veteran actor Arun Govil returns to the world of the epic, this time stepping into the shoes of King Dashrath. The first official poster featuring Govil as the King of Ayodhya has been unveiled, and his royal appearance has already sparked excitement among fans. Known for portraying Lord Ram in the iconic 1980s television series Ramayan, Govil's return to the world of the epic carries a special sense of nostalgia.

Dharma Productions shared the announcement on social media with a powerful message: “He once brought Ram to life for a generation. Now, he returns to the world of Ramayana as the King of Ayodhya. Arun Govil as King Dashrath.” The poster shows the veteran actor seated majestically on an intricately designed throne, dressed in traditional royal attire and adorned with elaborate jewellery and a crown. His commanding presence immediately gives the character the gravitas expected of the King of Ayodhya.

The casting has added another layer of intrigue to Namit Malhotra's ambitious Ramayana, which is being envisioned as a grand two-part cinematic adaptation. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the epic brings together some of Indian cinema's biggest names, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Laxman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. With Govil now joining the ensemble as King Dashrath, the film has also managed to connect its new-age cinematic vision with a beloved chapter from television history.

For many viewers, Arun Govil's association with Ramayana is inseparable from his portrayal of Lord Ram, making his casting as Dashrath particularly meaningful. Decades after his iconic television performance became part of Indian pop culture, seeing him return to the same mythological universe in a completely different role is likely to make his appearance one of the film's most talked-about elements. Fans have already celebrated the full-circle moment, with many praising the actor's commanding royal look in the first poster.

The makers are promising a visually ambitious experience with Ramayana, positioning the film as an immersive 3D spectacle designed for IMAX and premium formats. The project boasts an international-scale technical vision, with music being composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, while T-Series is associated with the film's music. The makers have described the project with the striking tagline, “Our Truth. Our History.”, signalling their intent to present the epic on a massive cinematic canvas.

Produced by Namit Malhotra and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is scheduled to arrive worldwide during Diwali 2026. With Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and now Arun Govil as King Dashrath, the epic has already generated enormous curiosity. But beyond its scale and star power, Govil's return may prove to be one of its most emotionally resonant casting choices—bringing together the Ram of one generation and the Dashrath of another in the same cinematic universe.
